Reader’s Question:

Is it much better if I should do my search online car insurance sites by myself or delegate the search for insurance policies to someone else? I need help getting an Indiana auto insurance quote, can you please assist me?

Kevin

Indianapolis IN

This actually depends on how you feel about finding your car insurance. There are two ways in which you can look for your insurance: delegating the task to someone else or doing it your own. For some people, they would leave all the work to an insurance agent or broker who will do the searching for them. Although this is a hassle-free approach, some people say that this is not the best approach.

You have the option to look for car insurance policies available to you without any outside help. Are you thinking that you might be overwhelmed with so many things to do and consider? This should not be the case with the help of the Internet. Acquiring your online car insurance quotes from car insurance websites should not be a hard and tiresome task for you. No matter where you are, who you are or what you need, you can find and purchase your online car insurance on your own.

Finding your car insurance in Indianapolis by yourself makes the Internet the proper place to be since it is packed with the information you needed. At the same time, you can acquire a lot of online car insurance quotes in one sitting, does increasing your productivity. However, the Internet should not overwhelm you. First of all, you have to know what you are doing and what you really need. When trying to purchase your online car insurance, you should not rush. Take time to read the details of your insurance quotes, the policies, among other things. By taking extra careful, you will be able to find the car insurance that you definitely need and purchase it.

Aside from getting basic information on insurance and acquiring car insurance quotes in Indianapolis Indiana, you can also find in the Internet the contact details for some insurance companies if you prefer visiting their offices and talking to a representative. There’s a lot more benefits to your time, energy and productivity when utilizing the Internet.

In conclusion, you don’t have to delegate the search for your car insurance as long as you have the will, determination and the patience to search and purchase it yourself in the Internet.

Reader’s Question:

When is term life insurance the best option? When should I buy Term life insurance in Indiana?

Ronald

Indianapolis IN

It is a fact, in a term life insurance in Indiana that the premiums you paid are more or less wasted money if you don’t die while the policy is in force. Furthermore, it entails no investment so it doesn’t have any cash value that you can take a loan against the value of your policy. However, there are still a few reasons why you should consider buying term life insurance in Indiana. Apart from taking advantage of its lower premium costs, the following are some examples in which term life insurance in Indiana can be your best option.

Term life insurance is an ideal insurance option to cover you if you are in a high-risk situation for a temporary period of time. However, this might be a little bit expensive compare to other term policies because of the risk involve but this will be offset by the fact that it’s a short term life insurance policy.

If you just got married and you plan to have children after five years, then a term life insurance can be an ideal temporary insurance for you and your spouse. It is the best option in this situation since it is much cheaper compare to whole life especially that you are still both young and in good health. If you already have your children, then you have the option to convert your term life insurance to permanent life insurance for a better and lifelong coverage for your family.

Another excellent option for term life insurance is using it to cover your mortgage. The financial burden of paying your mortgage, in the event that you die unexpectedly, is taken off from the shoulders of your dependents. This gives you a cheaper cost of protection since the policy is only in effect for the life of your mortgage. You can reduce the cost of your premiums even more by choosing a term life policy that decreases the amount of your coverage as the amount of your mortgage decreases over time.

Reader’s Question:

What is an SR22 auto insurance in Indiana and how much coverage am I required to get?

Arnold

Indianapolis IN

In Indiana, an SR22 auto insurance is a required insurance coverage specifically for high risk drivers. It is required by law that any motorist needs to carry at least the minimum amount of liability insurance required in the state. For those who have had their licenses suspended, due to major violations such as DUI/DWI or driving uninsured, an additional requirement is added in the form of the SR22 car insurance. This type of form has to be filed every month with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles by your auto insurance carrier. Failure to file this form when mandated, will have your license suspended. An SR22 auto insurance in Indiana is required to be maintained for three years after the date of the initial suspension.

As for the insurance requirements involved with SR22 insurance, it is the same as what is required of any drivers in Indiana. The following are the minimum liability requirements:

at least $25,000 worth liability coverage for bodily injury to 1 person.

at least $50,000 worth liability coverage for all bodily injuries.

at least $10,000 worth liability coverage for property damage.

Car insurance companies suggest you get more than that.

Reader’s Question:

My brother has a record of drunk driving and until now he hasn’t included SR22 Filing in his insurance though many car insurance brokers have been calling him to include SR22 in his insurance. Are these car insurance useful and are they right regarding SR22 here in Indiana?

Ashley

Fort Wayne, IN

Car insurance brokers are not useless at all; they are somehow what we call our angels for they look for good car insurance company and car insurance coverage that best fit you. You don’t have to go around shopping for coverage and researching what is SR22 all about for they will give you the necessary information you need. Put this in mind, car insurance brokers won’t give you an advice about SR22 if you don’t have a record since this kind of accident would most likely to happen again.

Having a car insurance broker doing the boring job in your behalf is a good thing, you don’t need to be the one searching for coverage and comparing. Doing this takes a lot of time for you are going to determine how much you would pay for your car insurance. Determining how much you should pay for your car insurance in Indiana is not that simple for you have to know and understand well how to make your car insurance lower. A car insurance broker knows ways on how to cut down the cost of your car insurance premiums which is offering a higher excess and with this you will be able to pay less each year for your car insurance. Your car insurance broker will know every way on how to make your premium lower as well as the car insurance coverage that best fits you.

Reader’s Question:

I already have two speeding tickets, but they were not in my state which is Indiana. I got one speeding ticket in Nevada and the other one in Texas. Is that going to be “noticed” by my auto insurance company here in Indiana?

Lizzie

Fort Wayne, IN

Lizzie, I can see that the DLC or Driver License Compact is going to be a problem for you. You see, Indiana, Nevada and Texas are signatories of the said compact. Members of the compact agree to send to each other traffic violations done by each respective state’s motorists in their state. The DLC’s theme, “One Driver, One License, One Record” basically tells you a lot. Short version: your speeding violations, after they’re processed by Texas and Nevada will be sent to Indiana. It will be noticed by your auto insurance company come renewal time when they check on your driving history.

Now, for the speeding violation to appear in your driving record and to be transmitted to your home state, you will have to be convicted of the speeding charge first. If you dispute this charge in court and win, this won’t go to your driving record.

You also have some options to make the ticket go away. In some states taking a driving lesson, defensive driving lesson, perhaps, would persuade the state to have the ticket dismissed. This is, of course, depends on the gravity of the offense. You should ask your local government to know more about this, so you’d know what to do if ever this happens again.

Reader’s Question:

I’m from Indiana, and I have a very old car I want repaired. Will my car insurer cover this?

Jerry

Anderson, IN

Auto insurance is mandatory in all states. The state of Indiana requires its motorists to have financial responsibility if they ever cause an accident. Motorists comply with this by purchasing auto insurance. Auto insurance is intended to protect the automobile and its occupants against the risks associated with the automobile’s normal use on the road.

Although auto insurance covers for repairs following an accident, provided that costs are within the limits stated in the policy, it does not cover expenses incurred from restoration and repair. An auto insurance company will only assist in paying if you carry auto repair insurance aside from the standard coverage. Many automobile owners, especially those who just bought their first one, are unaware of this type of insurance. Once your vehicle’s warranty expires, auto repair insurance is a safeguard to protect you from costly repairs.

Standard auto insurance has breakdown coverage. This means that the insurer is only liable to pay for repairs needed due to breakable parts. There is also wear and tear insurance, which covers for repairs necessitated by parts that deteriorate over time. However, not all companies cover wear and tear of cars with a standard auto repair policy, so you may need to purchase this from another company altogether. You can also shop around for an auto insurance company that covers both.

Before you get yourself auto repair insurance, be sure to know what is covered and how much you need to pay through deductibles. This is because you may still receive coverage on automobiles that have done less than 100,000 miles even if your auto manufacturer’s warranty has expired.

Reader’s Question:

It’s my first time purchasing car insurance here in Indiana. Any advice on how to find a reliable car insurance company?

Jake

Evansville, IN

Don’t worry, Jake, there are many insurance companies there in Indiana that offer car insurance for first-timers like you. There are certain things to consider when you’re hunting for a good car insurance company. The first and easiest way to get started is through the Internet. Try shopping online for more information and also to get free quotes for your car insurance. That way, you can easily compare car insurance rates from different companies. It’s very convenient, fast and economical.

Then, if you’re still unsatisfied by the information you have gathered on the Net, you can call your local insurance agent there in Indiana. Try asking your friends or your relatives about a reliable insurance agent. Through an agent, you will be able to ask for details regarding premium rates and coverages, so you can then compare them to other car insurance offers. But if you don’t want to go through an agent, there are also companies that offer car insurance directly to people like you.

Just remember to be honest about the information you put in your profile for it can affect certain rates or coverages. And if you want to save up on your car insurance, make sure that you have a clean driving record because traffic violations will affect your premiums. Most car insurance companies will also give you a discount if you already bought other insurance policies from them like a home or a life insurance.

Try also to consider the company’s financial stability as well as their standards in terms of customer care. Having a financially stable company is very important especially when you’re filing car insurance claims after getting into an accident.

Don’t forget to exhaust all your options, so you can better decide on the perfect car insurance policy for you.

Reader’s Question:

How does SR-22 insurance work here in Indiana, and how many points do I get for an OWI?

Bart

South Bend, IN

It is under the provisions of the law there in Indiana that a motorist may be subjected to chemical test to see the amount of alcohol in his blood if stopped and suspected by a traffic enforcement officer of OWI (operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated). In the event that a motorist is proven to be driving while intoxicated (this just means that the amount of alcohol in the blood of the motorist exceeds the legal limit), corresponding actions shall be taken against the motorist because in the state of Indiana, as anywhere else, this is a criminal offense.

To answer your first question, SR-22 insurance is the form of insurance that the state of Indiana utilizes in order to monitor the insurance of motorists that have had any problems – in this case, OWI-with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles there. This is also called financial responsibility insurance because this is what a motorist shows to prove that he has the state’s required minimum vehicle insurance policy. Typically, an SR-22 form is submitted to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles through an accredited vehicle insurance company that has a power of attorney on file.

Now, for your other question, according to the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, an Operating While Intoxicated offense is marked eight points in your driving record, and this will remain in your driver’s license for two years from the date of conviction.

I hope I answered your question.

I have a friend here in Fort Wayne, Indiana , who told me that I may be able to get some discounts on auto insurance if I don’t use my car that frequently. Is that true? Because most of the time, I just walk or commute to work, and I just use my car when I really need it.

Joshua

Fort Wayne, IN

Usually, there are different auto insurance policy laws for different states here in the country, but in the case of public transit users, I think it’s the same almost everywhere. And I’m sure the same thing is in effect there in Fort Wayne, Indiana. For you who do not really use your car that often and just commute through public transit or whatever, I’m sure that discounts are available because if a car insurance underwriter considers different factors, how frequent you use your car is going to be one of them. That is if you can prove to the auto insurance company that you actually use public transit. If you can, then you will definitely get a lower premium. The reason behind all of this is that a car insurance underwriter calculates how often you will probably be getting claims from them. Remember that when you get claims, the company loses money. If you do this a lot, there is a very high chance that the next time you have your policy renewed, either the company gives you a higher premium or the company rejects you. For those people that receive higher priced premiums, what they do is they commute and refrain from using their cars because this way, they can reduce the price of their premiums. If the car insurance company knows that you do not use your car that often, they would be open to giving you discounts. So, there you go now, and I hope I answered your question. Well, if you think about it, you would actually save more if you don’t use your car that often.

Reader’s Question:

My son will be studying abroad and will not be driving his vehicle for a year (his car is registered and insured under his name). Can he take off the insurance in his car in Bloomington, Indiana and place the insurance back when he returns?

Paul

Bloomington, IN

It will depend upon the state laws and where the vehicle is garaged if your son can take the car insurance off of the automobile. In many states if your vehicle is registered you need to have car insurance placed on it with at least the state’s minimum car insurance requirements. So your son may need to turn in his license plates and registration in order to take insurance off his vehicle so he will not be penalized by the state where he lives in.

In most states if you just remove the insurance on a car without turning in your license plates and registration this will be considered a lapse in your car insurance and may penalized such as registration and license suspension and fines.

It will likely increase your son’s car insurance rates when he comes back if he has a lapse on his car insurance for a year. Your son needs to talk to his car insurance company to know exactly how much his car insurance rates may rise from the lapse in car insurance policy.
